Wire Rope Inspection

Wire Rope Inspection

MD-20 and MD-25

Zawada NDT MD-20 handheld and light-weight wire-rope tester is a simple to use instrument to test the condition of small diameter ropes 8-20mm. It indicates the occurrence of rope defects that exceed the set level of detectability. The instrument is designed to quickly detect defects such as wire breaks and localized corrosion. The instrument operation is based on magnetic field, a world renowned method developed by the Academy of Mining & Metallurgy in Krakow.

Zawada NDT MD-25 is similar to MD-20 but designed to test bigger wire-rope diameter 10-25mm.

MD120

Zawada NDT MD120 instrument is based on permanent magnet method, which was developed in Poland and is used throughout the world. Standard range of GP sensing measuring heads can be used for ropes ranging from 8 to 90 mm diameter. Custom designed heads are also available. MD120 recording system includes a specially designed portable chart recorder with additional data recording which can be transferred to a computer. This unique instrument has been designed as a helpful and comfortable tool, to meet the special needs of rope experts in industrial environments.

MD120 features detection of defect position throughout the rope's entire length and depth, use of mathematical integral method for easier readout of high density defects, zoom replay of recorded defects, diagram solid state memory, computer interface and “wire-rope code" memory.

MD120 is capable of detecting all important defects to estimate rope deterioration; maximum sensitivity may be as high as 0.05% of nominal rope metallic cross-sectional area, detecting defects characterised by stepwise changes in rope cross-section, i.e. broken wires, pitting corrosion, etc., are detected using inductive sensors in all sensing heads. Larger losses in a rope's metallic cross-section, i.e. wear, corrosion in longer length etc. are detected using additional Hall-effect sensor in GP-1(h), GP-2(h), GP-3(h) and GM series heads.

GP Sensing Head

Zawada NDT designs and manufactures standard GP Sensing Heads for different applications such as mining winders, hauling ropes, drilling rigs, cranes, lift, etc.

MDNV Digital Data Logger

MDNV is a PC recording for MD-20 and MD-25 wire rope tester, used to record signal runs onto computer hard-drive and to visualize signal traces on computer display. The set consists of Digital Adapter and Data Logger Software to record signal into PC hard-drive. The data can be analyzed further in the PC using MD120PRE software.

D120PRE Software

This is a specific software intended to use as an extension for MD20, MD25 and MD120 instruments. Browser for analogue signals of sensors of wire rope testers or heads, digitalized and recorded by MDNV or MD120 Wire Rope Defectograph. Sensor of wire rope tester generates uniform noise signal if the wire rope is uniform. Broken wire or other defect generates pulse in sensor signal. Its magnitude and shape depends on defect dimensions. Program converts specific binary file created by MDNV and shows signal trace on computer screen. The trace or its selected part can be zoomed, printed, copied into Windows clipboard and to other program or exported to csv type file. Signal value can be measured on mouse click and user can type annotations on the trace.
